WEA member Reva Lobatos is a kindergarten teacher at Sunrise Elementary School in Cheyenne, and she just had two original leveled readers published. Leveled readers are the small books that kindergarten, first, and second grade teachers use to teach students how to read.
Lobatos attended the National Reading Recovery Conference in early February, where her books were released.
“Normally I’m just a kindergarten teacher, so they made it a really big deal, where I had a book signing and posters of my book covers,” Lobatos said.
She submitted 5 manuscripts, and two of those were published: the two she wrote about her sons. “Hadley’s Hats” is a book that contains pictures of her son, Hadley, and the many hats he wears. Her son Diego Josiah was the inspiration for her other published leveled reader, “Josiah’s Jacket.”
As soon as more copies of her books become available, Reva will donate some to Sunrise Elementary School. Her books are available for purchase at :
