Three Wyoming districts receive hurricane assistance

Three Wyoming school districts have received a total of $79,500 in reimbursement from the U.S. Department of Education’s Emergency Impact Aid for Displaced Students program.

Sweetwater 1 received $4,500, Teton received $25,500 and Uinta 1 received $49,500 in funding. Each received funding based on how many students they aided during the 2005-06 school year. A total of a little more than $878 million was distributed nationwide through the aid program.

The program provided financial assistance to local education agencies serving children and youth displaced by Hurricane Katrina or Rita. The reimbursement was to address the education and related needs of these students.

On average Wyoming schools accommodated 13 displaced students as a result of the hurricanes last year.

"Walden: The Ballad of Thoreau" is a new theatrical play about the last two days Henry David Thoreau spent in his cabin before leaving Walden Pond.  The script is being offered FREE OF CHARGE to educators as an Earth Day 2007 Event.

The Script and a complete lesson plan are available to teachers by downloading it from the Waldenplay.com website: www.waldenplay.com
