Coleen Haines

I would like to introduce myself as the WEA Communications Director. I joined WEA in 2012, after working in Public Affairs at the Wyoming Department of Transportation for about seven years. Working at WYDOT gave me a lot of experience in state government and working with other agencies.  I was also able to act as an agency liaison for numerous project collaborations with state, local, and national agencies.

My news background came from being a photojournalist for an ABC affiliate in Southern Illinois and then a CBS affiliate in Harrisburg, PA, where I got to cover some huge events in our history like Hurricanes Katrina and Isabel, President Reagan’s funeral, and the opening day of the Statue of Liberty after 9/11.

I’m a Cheyenne East High 1997 grad, and went to Laramie County Community College for two years, before attending Colorado State University and graduating in 2001. After being in the news business for almost five years, I covered enough great events, and bad, to walk away feeling fulfilled.

I came from an Air Force family, so I moved around quite a bit when I was a kid. My father was a recruiter, and my mom stayed home with me, my older sister and older brother. I was born at Mountain Home AFB in Idaho and from there, my family moved to Butte, Montana, for a few years, then on to Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, Alaska. After three years in Alaska, we moved to settle in Cheyenne, Wyoming, where I attended the local public schools. Although, my father passed away in 1997, my mom has remained in Cheyenne, which has always made it “home,” no matter where my travels took me. Here I met and fell in love with my husband, Sergio Gonzalez, and we have four dogs (2 Puggles and 2 Chihuahuas). We were recently married in September of 2011, and look forward to many happy years with our families and friends.

I love meeting everyone in the WEA, helping people, and showing non-members how great this association is and the people in it.

If you have great things happening in your local, please call me at 307-634-7991 ext. 113, or email me at chaines@nea.org
