Statement from WEA President Kim Amen regarding Supreme Court’s temporary stay

We received notice that the Wyoming Supreme Court granted a stay to the State of Wyoming in the WEA’s school funding lawsuit. While this means we must wait for the Court’s final decision on the appeal, it also gives us the opportunity to continue highlighting the urgent need for fair and full funding for Wyoming’s public schools.

For now, things are at a standstill with the lawsuit. The state still has the constitutional obligation to fully fund education and to recalibrate the funding model this legislative session, but it also gets temporary relief from the specifics of the district court judge’s decision until the Supreme Court issues a ruling on the appeal sometime in the coming months.

While this news is disappointing, it only reinforces why our work matters. We’ll continue to move forward with the legislature and through the recalibration process, and we’ll keep fighting for the funding our students, our educators, and our communities deserve.
